How to Make Crème Brûlée in the Instant Pot
French desserts are one of life’s greatest pleasures. And I have a real weakness for them, especially Crème Brûlée. A spoonful of this silky smooth custard laced with crunchy shards of burnt sugar is simply heavenly. However let’s be real, I very rarely get to enjoy this bliss. It’s a treat that I usually order at a restaurant….or on a cruise ship (those who know, know lol). And, with all the restrictions and lockdowns we’ve endured the last couple years (thank you covid) you can guess that I haven’t had the pleasure of eating this delicious dessert in a long long time. But this girl had a craving… So out…

Chocolate Chippers ~ The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies
I made a batch of these delicious cookies recently and fell in love with them all over again. They are definitely our favourite chocolate chip cookies. About 20 years ago, in the school yard, a kind mom shared some of her freshly baked cookies with me, while we waited for the kids to come out. They were fantastic and I told her so. She was eager to let me know that the “secret ingredient” was a packet of Instant Vanilla Pudding powder. I have no idea where she got the original recipe from but I can tell you that adding the vanilla pudding makes some pretty darn amazing cookies! Alas, it…

Carrot Pecan Breakfast Muffins
It’s been a while since I last posted on the blog… I’ve had a lot of technical issues with my desktop. It’s old and needs an intervention…or to be thrown out the window (I threaten to do this daily) lol. The big problem is that I can’t get my photos into the posts properly, it’s so darn frustrating. And, seriously, a travel or food post without any photos is just sadness don’t you think?! But the good news is that I’ve still been busy testing and perfecting all sorts of yummy recipes. Hopefully I will be able to share them with you very soon. So, with that in mind… Today’s…

Chewy Choco Chips + Nuts Cookie Bars
Here’s one that’s an oldie but a goodie as they say… I tore this recipe out of a magazine back in my teenage years, when I first started taking a liking to cooking. So, it’s been around for a good 35 years. Yikes! My sister and I had a few recipes for cookies and bars that we learned to make on our own, like this one. I remember baking them often because they were pretty easy for a newbie baker with not a lot of kitchen skills or fancy tools. The bars were not very pretty, often with overcooked edges and definitely not picture worthy. But they were chocolatey, chewy,…

Christmas Salted Chocolate Bark
After waiting with much anticipation I finally got my hands on the holiday issue of the LCBO Food & Drink Magazine. For those of you who are not from Ontario and are wondering what the heck I’m talking about let me explain…. This is a seasonal publication put out by the Liquor Board of Ontario advertising and promoting the latest in wines, liquors and liqueurs, presented in conjunction with a slew of interesting new recipes and other home entertainment ideas. This year’s offering is, as usual, a beauty. In my humble opinion they do an amazing job with it. I always look forward to picking up the latest magazine, but…

Wild Blueberries + Lemon Scones {plant based/vegan friendly}
I bought a small container of wild blueberries recently. They are a rare find, so I scooped them up without giving it a second thought. Something special needed to be made with those tiny beauties and it turned out to be these delicious scones. My baking is often vegan these days, so that everyone can enjoy the treats, including my vegan daughters. This particular version of my usual scone recipe doesn’t use any dairy or animal products. You should know that I am a huge fan/ lover of “the real thing” when it comes to butter. Yes, I will admit…I am a butter snob. In my humble opinion nothing comes…
